In the final week of March 2025, there was a shooting involving an officer at The Bridge at Harris Ridge Apartments in northeast Austin. On March 25, Austin Police Department (APD) officers responded to calls regarding a male firing a rifle in the apartment complex’s parking lot. The officers responded and encountered the suspect, who pointed a gun at them and screamed at the officers to shoot him. When the suspect disregarded several orders to put down his gun, one officer shot and killed  the suspect. The shooting has concentrated anger among residents over ongoing violent crime in the area. Residents have called for more police patrols, but APD officials cite staffing levels as an obstacle to increasing their presence. The Bridge at Harris Ridge Apartments has been the site of multiple violent crimes in recent years, such as the shooting death of a 14-year-old girl in June 2023.
